Interesting book filled with information about Brian’s life and mental health issues many of which were exacerbated by a controlling domineering extremely difficult dysfunctional father and a mother who was really not mentioned much and who should have protected her sons and left . She should have gotten those boys as far away as possible from their mean controlling money hungry and extremely negative father who was very , very critical , smothering, bossy , and very sick in many ways himself and just uncaring, even if he didn’t have mental health problems he STILL would not have been a kind , decent, loving father who had his children’s best interests in mind . The Dr. who was hired was a quack and NO ONE stepped in or stepped up to help Brian EXCEPT his lovely wife who REALLY loved him for himself and NOT for the cash cow that he was. Brian Wilson was a genius and ahead of his time and really made The Beach Boys . His cousin was not a decent person and was wild and nutty and actually abusive as badly as his father . Imo he was a male whore who would NOT control himself or grow upand caused untold countless problems and issues for Brian and didn’t care about anyone or anything except whoring with women , drinking and drugging and in plain language was an ass$@?e . His brothers should have been there for him but couldn’t or wouldn’t because of the damage caused by their father and a mother who really was not even present in trying to see what was blatantly obvious. She “ ignored or looked the other way “ and benefited from the financial gain as well. I may come off hard in my review and I don’t care . I believe these boys SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED by their mother and she didn’t do that ! I have SEEN the damage done to children when the parents neglect , allow emotional abuse, are in a denial of a sort when they REALLY KNOW what is going on. I have little tolerance for parents who destroy their children to benefit financially and/or live out their fantasies and lives through their kids . If none of this bothers you by all means read this book but for some folks it will gnaw at you if you are one who puts children FIRST and doesn’t tolerate emotional abuse and very dysfunctional behavior and parenting. This for me , goes beyond beyond a few problems and I didn’t like either parent at all - if you couldn’t tell - lol. I’m am an advocate for children and was a mandated reporter ; so keep that in mind while reading this review. I am aware that I don’t pull any punches but you decide
